Sabina Piegza Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Following her All-Tournament Team nod at the Battle at the Bay, senior setter Sabina Piegza was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday evening.
Piegza racked up a team-high 108 assists during the tournament, leading the squad in helpers in all four matches. The native of Poland compiled at least 20 assists in every match of the Battle at the Bay, beginning with 25 helpers in a season-opening sweep of host school Morgan State. She also added three kills, a service ace, a block, and a dig.
In the Red Storm's only loss of the tournament, Piegza notched 20 assists to go along with a kill, a service ace, and four digs, before adding 24 assists and a pair of digs in a sweep of Coppin State.
In the final match of the tournament, a 3-1 win over UMBC, Piegza picked up her fifth-career double-double on a season-high 39 assists and 13 digs. The senior also established a new season-high in kills with four.
The award is the first of Piegza's career and the first for St. John's (3-1) this season.
The Red Storm returns to Carnesecca Arena for the 2012 home-opener against Siena (2-2) on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. Admission is free and students will receive +4 MVP Points when swiping their Storm Card. A giveaway will be available courtesy of RedZone.
