Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement:
"I'm very pleased to come away with a win over a very good Quinnipiac team. I thought we did a great job, specifically in the first half. We took a step forward tonight and learned some things as well. I am very proud of our team and everybody gave us crucial minutes."
On having three players score double-digits:
"It comes from having an emphasis on sharing the basketball. We aren't mistake free but we are getting much better at sharing the ball. It's very important for us having Aliyyah and Amber finish with double-doubles and then Briana also being very close."
On winning at home:
"You always have to protect your home court. It's something we have always been proud of at St. John's with our program."
Sophomore Guard Aliyyah Handford
On her three double-doubles in the first four games:
"It just comes from hard work in practice and doing my best to help my team out in any way possible."
On what worked well against Quinnipiac:
"We just stopped them from doing what they wanted to do. They wanted to get out in transition and shoot threes and spot up. We stopped them from what they were doing and ended up with a win."
Senior guard Briana Brown
On how they handled Quinnipiac's high scoring offense:
"We really just dug down and did what we were supposed to do. We stuck to the game plan. I knew if we did that we would be fine."
On playing with underclassmen:
"Freshmen and sophomores? No. I really think they're very mature, a lot more mature than their class. Aliyyah is a sophomore but she's playing a senior role right now. She's been doing great, our whole team has been doing great, so I'm happy to have these young ladies around me. It makes my captain's job a lot easier."
On playing against bigger players:
"We really don't look at the size difference, we just play hard. It's really about playing hard and having the heart and wanting to go out there and win it."
