Thoughts on second half performance against James Madison:
"We weren't playing our game the first half just like we didn't yesterday, we had to pick it up defensively. I think defense was the main thing along with moving the ball and cutting."
On the teams slow starts to games this season:
"I hope that's not our thing, to get down and then come back up. We have to go after it right out of the gates in the first four minutes of play. We have to play the way we can play. That is a pattern but that something we have to get through and I hope these losses help us become a better team for the future."
James Madison University Head Coach Kenny Brooks
On his team's zone defense shutting down the SJU offense:
"We watched Drexel and how they stifled the St. John's offense by playing zone. We didn't want to go to it but I thought we were about to get into some foul trouble so we went to it and it was very good to us so we stuck with it throughout the first half and it really slowed them down."
On the bright future of the St. John's program:
"It was a very good win over a very good basketball team. This team is going to figure it out. They have a couple of kids in waiting so I think this a good team that will turn into a pretty good one. Joe [Tartamella] does a great job and they have a lot of talent, a lot of guards, and they do a pretty good job."
Drexel head coach Denise Dillon
On today's performance:
"I'm happy with the win and overall I thought we played well. I wasn't too happy with the last four minutes; I think we lost a little bit of focus on what needed to be done. We had some players in there that haven't seen many minutes, so I think the intensity needs to step up a little bit when that's the case.
On what the team can take away from their two-win weekend:
"It's big, we needed a win and got a big one yesterday. We didn't come into today with a lapse; I think we came out strong and did what was necessary to get another win. We're only hoping this young group is learning and moving forward.
Prairie View A&M Head Coach Dawn Brown
On the strategy for today's game:
"We came in with a different mentality of wanting to be the aggressors of the game, wanting to be more physical. I think overall we did a fair job. It's hard defending a team that shoots 40% from the three-point line. Their one through five are all capable shooters and they came out hitting shots. They were on fire. In the second half when their shots weren't falling we were able to dig in and chip in there a little bit but we got down by 17 and when you're that far behind it leaves you short by 8 at the end. Overall, I'm satisfied with them. We still have a long way to go. Hopefully we can build on this by the time our conference starts."
On what she can take away from the Chartwells Holiday Classic:
"One thing we saw here was a lot of shooting, a lot of great shooters. In our league we don't have teams that can shoot the ball as well. It's more of a balanced attack, an inside-out game. I'm glad we were able to see something like that. We were definitely able to work on our press and slow some people down. That's one thing that I haven't seen in a long time. Even some of the bigger schools we've faced, Florida State and Texas A&M, they still didn't shoot 40% from the three-point line. One thing about our girls is that they don't quit. This team does not quit. They're going to fight till the end. It's tough being down 0-8 but when you have girls that want to fight down to the last buzzer, that gives you a light at the end of the tunnel."
