FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y.- After picking up a big 4-3 win over Binghamton on March 17, the St. John's men's tennis team fell to Penn, 5-2, yesterday afternoon at the National Tennis Center.
Senior Vasko Mladenov picked up his seventh straight victory in a straight set, 6-2, 6-2, win over the Quakers' Nikola Kocovic. Mladenov, whose string of wins have all come at the No. 1 slot, now holds the longest winning streak in the BIG EAST.
Senior Mike Lampa also notched a straight set victory, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Red Storm its final point of the contest.
After Lampa and classmate Valentin Mihai gave the Red Storm a chance to take an early advantage in the match with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, classmates Hugo Morth and Mark Mozer and senior and freshman Michael-John Every and Mladenov could not convert as they both duos fell 9-7 and 8-6 respectively.
The Red Storm will return to the courts on Saturday, March 30, where they will take on Yale in a 5 p.m. match at the National Tennis Center.
