Red Storm Wraps Up Play At Columbia Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team concluded play across the East River at the Columbia Invitational where they were led by freshman Anna Morozova and senior Yanita Arnaudova, who each picked up two singles victories over the weekend.
After dropping her third round match in a tough super breaker in the third set, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5, Arnaudova won back-to-back matches in straight sets. The Haskova, Bulgaria native first knocked off Sarah Monteagudo, 6-2, 6-4, and then Amanda Zalameda, 6-2, 7-6(3), both of Amherst. Morozova tallied victories over Luba Vazhenina of Penn, 6-1, 6-4, and Amherst's Jordan Brewer, 6-2, 6-2.
The Red Storm also saw three set victories from senior Khrystyna Pavlyuk, whose grueling win over Jen Newman of Amherst on Saturday featured a 10-8 super breaker third set to clinch the match, and junior Nastya Polyakova, a 6-0, 4-6, 10-7 win over Penn's Stephanie Do.
