QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Ashley Boursiquot and sophomore Karin Palgutova were tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after the duo helped lead St. John's to a 3-2 win over Seton Hall in the conference opener on Friday, Sept. 27. This is Boursiquot's second-career BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mention and the sixth time in Palgutova's career that she has received any type of BIG EAST Weekly award.
In the five-set win over the Pirates, Boursiquot recorded her first-career double-double with 10 kills and 10 blocks, while hitting .474. The 10 blocks are a career-high for Boursiquot, whereas the 10 kills tie a previous career-high she set on Sept. 29, 2012 in a sweep of UConn. Three of Boursiquot's 10 blocks were solo blocks, which also ties a previous career-high.
Palgutova led the match vs. Seton Hall with 27 kills on 81 attempts (.272 hitting percentage), both of which are career highs. She also recorded her team-high fifth double-double of the season by adding 11 digs. The outside hitter chipped in four blocks and put down the final point in the win over the Pirates with a kill. She currently leads the BIG EAST in kills per set (4.48) and points per set (5.11), and is 16th and 17th in the NCAA in those respective categories.
