QUEENS, N.Y. - Recent graduate Kristina Quan, a four-year member of the women's soccer program, and rising senior Zach Lauricella of the baseball team were granted BIG EAST Post Graduate Scholarships that recognize their efforts as student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
Each year, the BIG EAST selects both a male and female student-athlete from each member institution to award a $2,000 scholarship towards graduate school.
A member of the University's prestigious President's Society, which recognizes those students that combine scholarship, integrity and maturity with leadership skills as demonstrated through significant contributions to the extracurricular life at the University, Quan majored in chemistry and biology and graduated in May with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The defender earned both NSCAA Scholar All-East Region honorable mention accolades and first team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a junior after earning a second team CoSIDA Academic All-District selection as a sophomore. Quan made 54 appearances, including 28 starts, during a four-year career with the Red Storm.
A management major with a 3.37 GPA and a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree, Lauricella earned first team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors this past season. Following a sophomore season in which he was a third team All-BIG EAST selection, the outfielder was a Preseason All-BIG EAST choice and earned second team All-BIG EAST accolades as a junior. Lauricella has batted .294 (167-for-568) in 166 games as a three-year starter for the Red Storm. The outfielder has scored 101 runs, while adding 39 doubles, 10 home runs and 111 RBI.
