Sept. 23, 2014 QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a professional stint in Iceland this past summer, former St. John's standout Amy Marron has returned to her alma mater, joining the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, it was announced today by Head Coach Ian Stone.
"I am really happy that Amy is volunteering with us this season," said Stone. "She not only bleeds SJU Women's Soccer, but is also a great role model having enjoyed a phenomenal career as a student-athlete here, then playing professionally in Europe this past summer. She aspires to be a high-level college coach so the experience she will gain this fall will be invaluable for her future."
Marron, a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree during her time in Queens, played professionally in Iceland for Afturleding in the summer of 2014, a team that plays in one of the top leagues in Iceland.
"It feels good; it's nice to come in and know the program and help out, even just in the little ways that I can," Marron commented upon her return to campus. "It's good that I know a lot of the girls and it's exciting to see the potential for this season and beyond."
A stalwart defender that also played midfield and forward for Coach Stone, Marron was an integral part of the 2013 squad that advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, leading the team in assists (7) while finishing second in goals (4) and points (15). Following that season, the Valhalla, N.Y., native earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the second time in her career she garnered that accolade. She also found a place on the All-BIG EAST Third Team following her junior campaign in 2012.
For her career, Marron appeared in 70 games, starting all but one, tallying eight goals, 11 assists, 27 points and 121 shots.
The Red Storm will make its first appearance with Marron on the sideline this Thursday, kicking off BIG EAST play against Xavier in Cincinnati.
