NEW YORK, N.Y. - The St. John's track & field team got underway at the 108th Running of the Millrose Games staged at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center on Thursday afternoon, as the throwing trio of senior Natasha Amazan, junior Ann Dagrin and freshman Nyla Woods featured in the open women's weight throw. Going up against top collegiate and post-graduate competition, Woods placed fourth, Dagrin fifth and Amazan sixth out of nine athletes in the opening event of one of the sport's most prestigious events.
Woods led group with a mark of 17.58 meters while Dagrin was just two centimeters back at 17.56 meters, and Amazan reached 17.21 meters. The trio was responsible for sweeping the weight throw at last week's 2015 Metropolitan Indoor Championships title, helping St. John's claim its first team title since 2011 and just its second in the last 25 years.
The Red Storm will feature in three more events at this weekend's famed Millrose Games, lining up in Saturday's Distance Medley, 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relays. St. John's relays will be comprised of the pool of seniors LaTasha Collins and Nastasya Rodriques, juniors Stephanie Van Pelt, Pariis Garcia, Shenika King and Raquel Ricketts, and freshmen Izzi Batt-Doyle, Marlow Schulz and Maya Stephens.
St. John's will also send a contingent to the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational in West Long Branch, N.J., on Saturday, with the first event scheduled for 9 a.m.
