QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a runner-up finish at the BIG EAST Championship in April, St. John's women's tennis standouts Anna Morozova and Natalie Vavulina have been named to the BIG EAST All-Conference Team.
Morozova, a native of Yaroslavl, Russia, was one of just three BIG EAST women's tennis players unanimously selected to the all-conference squad. This season, the sophomore tallied a singles record of 17-5, highlighted by a perfect 5-0 mark in the top singles slot. In addition to her prowess in singles play, Morozova, along with her partner Vavulina, compiled a doubles record of 13-3, sweeping all seven of their matches played outside the top doubles slot. Morozova was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 18.
Vavulina, hailing from Minsk, Belarus, had a tremendous sophomore season, going 16-5 overall in singles play. All 21 of her matches were played in the third slot. At the BIG EAST Tournament, Vavulina won each of her first two matches in straight-sets before her championship match went unfinished. At the time the match was called, Vavulina led her opponent, taking the first set, 7-5. A dominant player in conference action, Vavulina tallied a 6-1 singles record against BIG EAST opponents this season.
