QUEENS, N.Y. (Sept. 3, 2015) - St. John's women's golf head coach Ambry Bishop has announced the 2015 fall slate for the Red Storm and it features five events over a span of six weeks.
"I am really looking forward to the start of this season," Bishop said. "We have a strong schedule with some exciting travel to new venues."
The season will kick off Sept. 13 at the Towson Invitational hosted by the Tigers at their Country Club in Towson, Md. One week later (Sept. 19-20), St. John's will make its way to Lewisburg, Pa., to compete at the Lady Bison Fall Classic on the Bucknell Golf Club.
After clashing against Hofstra (Oct. 8-9) in Huntington, N.Y., St. John's travels to Piscataway, N.J., Oct. 17-18 to participate at the Rutgers Women's Invitational on the University Golf Course.
The Red Storm is set to close out the fall at the St. John's Women's Intercollegiate on Oct. 26-27. The tournament will take place at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.
"We are looking forward to hosting our home event again at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club," Bishop added. "Saint Andrew's is the "Oldest Golf Club in America" and is a great venue for hosting. The golf course offers a tough challenge with pristine conditions. It is always great to have a home event and have the local support."
Senior Anna Kim and juniors Lindsey Oliva and Saskia Sterud return from last season's squad that placed fourth at the BIG EAST Championship.
Kim was as consistent as they come at the No. 1 slot posting eight top-10 finishes, including her first career-individual title at the Lady Hoya Invitational. She was named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on April 8 and tied for seventh at the conference championship.
Sterud participated in the final three tournaments of the season and averaged an 18-round score just above 80. She tallied back-to-back top-20 finishes at the Pirate Invitational and BIG EAST Championship, respectively.
Oliva came on strong in the spring, carding a sixth place mark at the LIU Lonnie Barton Invitational and a 12th place showing at the Lady Hoya Invitational.
"I look for our returning players to come out strong with their experience, but also expect our incoming freshmen to make a big impact too," Bishop said. "We have great practice facilities at Saint Andrew's and look forward to the next two weeks to prepare for our fall season."
Freshmen Kirsty Beckwith and Lydia Kim round out the starting five and will be looked upon to contribute immediately.
