FLUSHING, N.Y. - St. John's men's tennis (11-3) beat back-to-back Atlantic 10 champions George Washington (2-3) on Saturday, 6-1. It was the Johnnies first victory over the Colonials since 2012.
The doubles team of Daniel Skripnik and Roberto Livi took the first match of the night winning 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. The senior duo is now 8-4 this season when playing together. At No. 3 doubles, Lucas Hejhal and Dusan Vukicevic teamed up for the first time this season and clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 triumph. At singles play, Livi playing No. 3 singles defeated Chris Fletcher 6-1, 7-5 for his seventh singles win of the season.
At No. 6 singles, Vukicevic recorded a straight-sets victory to win the match for the Johnnies and moved his record to 8-2 on his freshman season. The Red Storm won three singles matches that all went to three sets. The No. 92 ranked singles player Hejhal defeated Julius Tverijonas 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Alan Aguilera Nunez and Skripnik each lost their first set, but came back to win their matches. St. John's is now 6-0 at home this season.
St. John's will head to Boston for its next match to take on the No. 36 Harvard Crimson on Friday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Murr Tennis Center.
