QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Anna Morozova has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second time in her collegiate career, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The Yaroslavl, Russia, native led the Red Storm to two home victories this week over BIG EAST opponents Marquette and Seton Hall. Against the Golden Eagles, she teamed up for the first time this season with Natallia Vavulina and earned a 6-0 victory at the top doubles spot. In singles play, she recorded a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 spot as the Johnnies earned a 6-1 victory.
The second match of the week for the Red Storm was a 7-0 sweep against the Pirates. Again teaming up with Vavulina, Morozova notched another 6-0 victory at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 singles, Morozova was the first to finish her match, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 win to finish the week undefeated.
Morozova, a member of last season's All-BIG EAST team, has put together another terrific year going 25-5 this season. It's her third-straight season with at least 22 wins and she now has a lifetime spring-season record of 83-29. She is currently on a five-match win streak in singles play and a four-match win streak in doubles play.
