QUEENS, N.Y. - After shattering every scoring record imaginable during her Red Storm tenure, Rachel Daly picked up right where she left off in her pro debut, tallying a goal and an assist to earn Player of the Match honors in the Houston Dash's 3-1 season-opening victory over the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday.
After Chicago jumped out to an early lead on a Christen Press goal in the 13th minute, Daly responded with the equalizer to knot the game at one a side less than 10 minutes later. The Harrogate, England, native corralled a loose ball before sending home a runner to the inside near post past the Chicago goalkeeper.
On the other side of the intermission, Daly picked up an assist on the eventual game-winner, sending a cross to the back post where a waiting Carli Lloyd headed it home and gave the Dash a 2-1 advantage.
Two minutes later, fellow rookie Janine Beckie added an insurance tally for the Dash, who ended the game with a 3-1 lead.
The Dash will next be in action on Saturday, April 23, heading to Orlando to take on the Pride.
