QUEENS, N.Y. - After exploding onto the scene with a goal and an assist in her professional debut on Saturday, Rachel Daly has been named the National Women's Soccer League Player of the Week.
A two-time All-American during her time with the Red Storm, Daly knotted the contest at one apiece in the 22nd minute of the Houston Dash's 3-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars before assisting on 2015 FIFA World Player of the Year Carli Lloyd's eventual game-winner in the 51st minute.
Her impressive first half tally was something that should have come as no surprise to Red Storm fans, as Daly took control of a loose ball outside of the box before unleashing a right-footed strike from distance that curved and found a spot just inside the near post.
Less than 30 minutes later, Daly, guarded closely by a pair of defenders on the left side, managed to get off a perfectly-placed cross to a waiting Lloyd who headed it home to give the Dash a 2-1 advantage.
The all-time leading scorer in program, Daly will next take the pitch with the Dash on Saturday in Orlando.
