St. John's Begins BIG EAST Play At Georgetown

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's will play its fifth match in only seven days, as it heads to the nation's capital to take on Georgetown to open up BIG EAST action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the McDonough Arena.
This will be the final match of an eight game road trip for the Red Storm and fans can watch the match on GUHoyas.com. A subscription is required to watch the game, but fans can also keep up with the action by following @StJohnsVB.
LAST TIME OUT: ST. JOHN'S GOES 1-2 AT THE CHALLENGING WEST POINT INVITATIONAL
The Red Storm (9-4) played in its final regular season tournament last weekend and came up short against tough opponents Albany and Connecticut.
The victory at the tournament for the Johnnies was a sweep over Delaware State, giving the Red Storm its eighth sweep of the season.
On the final day of the West Point Invitational, St. John's faced former BIG EAST rival UConn and came back to tie the match at two, after trailing 2-0, but was edged in the final set, 15-13.
Margherita Bianchin, Gaia Traballi, Erica Di Maulo and Danisha Moss all picked up double-doubles at the invitational and Di Maulo was named to the All-Tournament Team. Every tournament the Johnnies have competed in this season, the newcomer Di Maulo has been named to the All-Tournament Team.
Bianchin leads the squad with 3.43 kills per set, while Di Maulo averages a team-best 10.41 assists and 2.43 digs per set.
BIG EAST AND NCAA RANKINGS(as of Sept. 19, 2016)
With 1.53 blocks per set, Moss leads the BIG EAST conference and ranks 11th in the country.
Di Maulo ranks third in the BIG EAST in assists per set with 10.41.
The Red Storm is ranked 13th in the country in blocks per set, averaging 2.93.
St John's leads all BIG EAST programs in hitting percentage and blocks per set.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS (4-9)
Georgetown played in the Denver Invitational on Saturday and knocked off Southern Utah in five sets, before being swept by the host school Denver.
Sophomore middle blocker Symone Speech was named to the All-Tournament team after producing 36 kills on a .508 hitting percentage in the two matches.
The Hoyas were picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and boast a very young squad, as 13 of its 16 players are underclassmen.
Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Sinnette leads the team with 3.5 kills per set and has added 95 digs this season. The starting setter for the Hoyas is Paige McKnight, who tops the squad with 10.16 assists and 2.84 digs per set.
As a team, Georgetown averages 12.8 kills, 12.2 assists and 14.53 digs per set, while hitting at a .185 clip.
The Red Storm owns a 16-9 all-time record against the Hoyas and has won the last five matches. St. John's is 8-4 when playing Georgetown on the road and last year Julia Cast recorded 27 kills combined in the two victories over the Hoyas.
