2017 St. John's Women's Soccer Spring Schedule
QUEENS, N.Y. - Coming off its fourth-straight double-digit win season, the St. John's women's soccer team will play a five-game slate in the spring, all of which will be at Belson Stadium.
For the third-straight year, the Red Storm will kick off the spring against Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League, one of the premier women's soccer leagues in the entire world. The contest, set for a 3 p.m. kickoff on March 25, will be the first time Sky Blue visits Belson Stadium since 2013. Last season, the Johnnies went 8-0-2 on their home turf.
Sky Blue, which went 7-8-5 in 20 NWSL matches in 2016, sports a star-studded roster of both international and former collegiate standouts. Most notably, United States Women's National Team mainstays Kelley O'Hara and Christie Rampone play for Sky Blue, as does 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy Winner Raquel Rodriguez.
After taking on Sky Blue, the Red Storm welcomes Division II LIU Post, who has made three-straight appearances in the second round of the Division II NCAA Championship. The Johnnies and Pioneers will kick off at 7 p.m. on March 31 in Queens.
The following week, University of Pennsylvania visits Belson Stadium for a 3 p.m. first kick on April 8. The Quakers finished 9-3-4 last season and return three All-Ivy players that will be entering their second or third seasons of collegiate soccer.
Two weeks later, St. John's will take on Sacred Heart on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. Last year, the Pioneers finished with an overall record of 8-6-5, including a 5-1-2 mark in NEC contests.
St. John's will wrap up its spring schedule with a match against Fordham on April 23 at 1 p.m. The Rams finished the 2016 campaign at 10-5-5 and went 5-2-4 in A-10 matches. Fordham is led by Jessica Clinton, who coached under Ian Stone during the 2008 and 2009 seasons at St. John's.
