Men's Tennis Drops Match to No. 18 Columbia

NEW YORK - The St. John's men's tennis team (6-8) fell to the 18th--ranked Columbia Lions (7-2), 7-0, at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center in New York on Sunday.
The Johnnies took on a slew of ranked opponents in both singles and doubles matches on Sunday.
In doubles play, Ognjen Trejgut and Luka Sucevic dropped a close match, 6-4, to brothers Richard and Victor Pham, a top-15 pairing in the country. Alan Nunez Aguilera and Dusan Vukicevic also lost 6-4 at the No. 2 slot to Columbia's Christopher Grant and Michal Rolski.
In singles play, Roberto Livi, who is ranked No. 123 in the country, had a chance to play against Victor Pham, currently a top-100 player, in the No. 1 spot.
Sucevic took the first set against the No. 103 player in Division I, Jackie Tang, before ultimately losing, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Nunez Aguilera also won a set against Richard Pham, but Columbia's senior ultimately won their match.
The loss comes after the Johnnies took both matches in a home doubleheader on Friday, winning the last one 7-0 against Farleigh Dickinson. Columbia also bested St. John's during the ECAC Championships on Feb. 17.
The Johnnies travel to Williamsburg, Va., for a midweek matchup against William & Mary on Feb. 28.
