QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team (10-2) will make the trip to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on the Penn Quakers (6-6) at the Hect Center on Saturday. It will be the second-ever meeting between the two sides.
The inaugural matchup came last season, in Head Coach Lauren Leo's first campaign at the helm. The Johnnies dropped that matchup, 5-2, to a Quakers team that finished the season No. 48 in the ITA rankings.
Penn is coming off of a stretch in which they won five of six matches, including a 5-2 victory over No. 36 Florida State on March 12. They took five of six matches in singles play to capture the win.
Sophomore Marta Kowalska, who has won six straight matches, leads the Quakers in singles play. This is the final non-conference matchup for Penn this season; they will face Ivy League opponents in their final four regular-season matches.
Freshman Jessica Livianu continues to dazzle at the collegiate level for the Red Storm. The No. 49 player in Division I will look to win her 10th-straight singles match against the Quakers. She will most likely take on Penn senior Kana Daniel, who has already taken down a ranked opponent this season, FIU's 28th-ranked Andrea Lazaro.
The Johnnies will look to continue their strong doubles play this spring. They have not lost the doubles point all season, winning at least two doubles matches in every contest.
This matchup signals the beginning of the stretch run for the Red Storm. They have six matches left after Saturday, playing a pair of contests on two of the next four weekends to wrap up their regular-season schedule.
