QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping the Red Storm extend its winning streak to seven games with a 3-0 showing in three contests last week, Sean Mooney has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced this afternoon by the league office.
A two-time BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week in March, Mooney finds a spot on the weekly honor roll for the second time this season.
Making just his seventh career start, Mooney delivered what was arguably his most dominant performance against Fairleigh Dickinson. The freshman from Marmora, N.J., scattered two hits and a walk across eight scoreless innings, not allowing a single FDU runner to advance past first base. Requiring only 91 pitches to get through eight innings, Mooney threw 64 of those for strikes, good enough for a 70 percent success rate despite a steady rain throughout much of the contest. Through games played on Sunday, Mooney ranks third in the nation with a 1.04 ERA and leads all of Division I with a 0.73 WHIP.
St. John's returns to action on Wednesday, squaring off with Princeton at 6 p.m. in the Johnnies first night game of the year at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
