QUEENS, N.Y. - After a team season-high five point effort against Providence on Saturday, St. John's senior midfielder Scott Scannell has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Scannell led the charge for the Red Storm with his five points on four assists and a goal. The last three of his assists helped Jackson O'Leary find the back of the net as O'Leary came away with the squad's second hat trick of the year and a three-point day.
The Nesconset, N.Y., native scored the Red Storm's first goal of the afternoon after he scooped a groundball in a scramble following a Jason DeBenedictis shot that hit post. The senior picked this groundball and went low-low to find net at the 8:29 mark of the second quarter.
After Saturday's performance, Scannell jumped to the top of the Red Storm's offensive leaderboard as he now owns a team-high 14 points on the year and nine assists.
The Red Storm returns to action tomorrow, April 4, as the Johnnies host No. 17 Yale in a non-conference matchup at DaSilva Memorial Field at 3 p.m.
