FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -Junior Andrew Baek carded a two-under 68 on the final day of The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red on Sunday after, finishing the tournament at level par and propelling himself into a tie for 10th place on the weekend.
Baek's low round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fifth hole and also featured three birdies in a stretch of four holes on the back nine.
As a team, the Red Storm carded a 13-over 293 on Sunday, 10 shots behind its second-round output of 283 (+3). Gerald Mackedon put up a 74, while Matthew Sweeney posted a 75. James Smooth and Jonathan Spicci rounded out the scoring for St. John's, registering a 76 and 77, respectively.
The Johnnies three-day total of 875 placed them in a tie for 10th place in a loaded field that saw Florida State claim the tournament title with a three-round effort of 827.
"I think we are on the verge of really breaking though as a team," Head Coach Mal Galletta said. "We have something good here, now we just have to find a way to execute that on that. We saw an impressive round-two performance but let that slip away from us in round three. We have to finish strong and I know we can, that is something we are going to work towards."
Eoin Leonard of Yale claimed medalist honors for the weekend, following up a pair of Saturday 65s with a 69 on Sunday to finish at 11 under par. John Pak of Florida State, who went 69-67 on Saturday, carded a Sunday 65 to pull within two of Leonard, but his rally fell just short.
The Johnnies will return to action on Sept. 18, traveling to South Kent, Conn. for the two-day Hartford Hawks Invitational.
