Canton, Mass. - St. John's women's golf team saw sophomores Linda Wang and Kaitleen Shee produce an overall nine-over 225 to complete Monday's final round of the Boston College Intercollegiate in a tie for 10th place, and propelled the Johnnies to an eighth-place finish.
Wang's performance was highlighted by two birdies on the back nine to register a four-over 76 in the final round of the tournament. Her lowest performance came during round two when she carded a one-over 73 to help her advance to a top-10 finish.
Shee carded her best performance in round one of the event by posting a two-over 74, followed by a three-over 75 in round two. Over the final 18 holes she dropped three birdies, with two coming on a par 3 and one on a par 5 to maintain her top-10 finish.
"It was nice to see Linda and Kaitleen have a solid weekend," said Head Coach Ambry Bishop. "The course setup was challenging and they both did a great job of capitalizing on birdies and minimizing the mistakes. I look for both of them to carry over this momentum as we get ready for the Brown Bear Intercollegiate."
Junior Alejandra Sanchez jumped 18 spots on the final day after recording three birdies to finish with a tournament low 77 (+5). Freshman Andrea Sanchez closed out play shooting an 84 (+12), but saw her best performance in round two, posting a 75 (+3). Rounding out scoring for the Johnnies was Sophomore Sofie Huseby who shot an 85 (+13).
"The team had many highlights this weekend," Bishop said. "We still have to work on improving around the greens which will have a big impact on our teams scores."
Elsa Diaz of Richmond jumped two spots to finish with medalist honors for the individuals, turning in her card at one-over 217. Elon's Heather Munro finished one stroke behind Diaz to earn second place. As a team, Richmond maintained their first-place spot carding a seven-over 887 to claim the Boston Intercollegiate team title.
The Johnnies will take three weeks off from competition before traveling to Seekonk, Mass. for the Brown Bear Intercollegiate on Oct. 15.
