Zsani Kajan broke through offensively for the women's soccer team on Saturday night with a pair of goals to lift the Johnnies to a 2-0 victory over conference foe Seton Hall at Owen T. Carroll Field.
Kajan led the way for the Johnnies on Saturday night, scoring the eventual game winner in the 46th minute before adding an insurance marker in the 64th. The effort marked the forward's third multi-goal outing of the 2018 season. Kajan has now scored a pair of goals in back-to-back contests for the Red Storm for a total 11 strikes on the season.
Recording two saves on the evening, goalkeeper Meredith Reinhardt earned her third clean sheet of the 2018 campaign and second shutout in just three games. The Arizona transfer has now earned a total six wins this year.
Seniors Christina Bellero, Samantha Masur, and Samie Scaffidi etched their names on the stat sheet against the Pirates, each dishing out an assist on the evening.
The possession was distributed evenly in the early going of the match, with the Pirates holding a 4-3 shot advantage over the Johnnies entering the intermission. In the ninth minute Scaffidi recorded the first look on goal of the match, registering the lone shot on target in the opening half for both teams.
The Johnnies brought a new level of energy coming out of the locker room for the second half. Just seconds out of the break Bellero dribbled the ball down the right side and played a cross into the box to Kajan. The Budapest, Hungary, native then powered it home to give St. John's a 1-0 lead.
Eighteen minutes later, the Johnnies added another marker, as Kajan scored her second goal of the evening. Masur initiated the action, sending a long pass toward Kajan who made a quick breakaway, blistering a shot to the left corner of the cage and lifting the Johnnies to a 2-0 victory.
St. John's outshot the Pirates by a 13-11 margin on the evening, with Kajan and Scaffidi pacing the squad with four shots apiece.
St. John's returns to action at home on Thursday night, welcoming Villanova to Belson Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
