St. John’s Welcomes Villanova for Thursday Night Contest

Unbeaten in its last three contests, the St. John's women's soccer team welcomes conference foe Villanova to Belson Stadium on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. tilt.
The game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network with John Fanta on the call from Queens.
With three conference matches remaining in the 2018 regular season, just one point separates the Johnnies and the Wildcats in the league rankings. St. John's and Villanova enter play slotted third and fifth, respectively, in the BIG EAST women's soccer standings.
The Johnnies have been on a surge as of late, most recently recording a 2-0 shutout victory at Seton Hall on Saturday evening. Zsani Kajan has led the team offensively recording back-to-back multi-goal games to earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. With 11 tallies on the year, the forward became just the seventh Johnnie in program history to record double-digit goals in a single season. With her two tallies in Saturday's match she surpassed former St. John's standout and current assistant coach Jen Bethea for the single-season goal record. Bethea notched 10 goals during her senior campaign in 2011. Kajan's 11 goals on the season, rank the redshirt sophomore second overall in the conference and inside the top-25 on the national level.
Senior Samie Scaffidi has been a key contributor to the Johnnies success over the course of the 2018 campaign. The Silver Spring, Md., native assisted on the Red Storm's game winning goal against the Pirates on Saturday evening for her fifth helper of the season. With five assists on the 2018 campaign, she leads the Red Storm and sits in a tie for third in the conference. In addition, the 5-foot-4 forward has recorded a pair of goals for a total nine points this year.
Earning a spot on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third-consecutive week, Meredith Reinhardt has been a force between the pipes for the Red Storm. Coming off her third clean sheet of the season at Seton Hall on Saturday. The Arizona transfer made a pair of stops to improve her save percentage to .776, good enough for sixth overall in the BIG EAST.
The Wildcats enter play on a two-game skid, dropping a pair of 1-0 decisions, including an overtime loss to No. 4 Georgetown. The Wildcats are led offensively by sophomore Bri Austin who has recorded a total seven goals and 15 points for Villanova this year. Hensley Hancuff has played substantial minutes in the cage for the Wildcats earning a total six wins for Villanova.
Thursday will mark the 26th all-time meeting between the two programs. St. John's and Villanova share a series history dating back to the 1987 season. The Red Storm has won the past five meetings with the Wildcats including a 2-1 victory last year with goals from Kajan and senior forward Christina Bellero.
