St. John’s Concludes Play at the Musketeer Classic

Gerald Mackedon paced the field for the Red Storm
The St. John's men's golf team completed play at the Musketeer Classic on Tuesday tuning in a low-round 297 over the final 18 holes to finish 12th overall in the standings.
St. John's junior Gerald Mackedon paced the field for the Red Storm for the fourth time this season. The Port Jefferson native shot a 73 and 77 in the last two rounds. Mackedon recorded a total 36 pars and six birdies to turn in a combined 224 and finish inside the top-40.
During the tournament, Austin Briggs carded five birdies en route to his 227 finish. The senior from San Clemente, Calif., saw his best effort come over the final 18. Starting on the par-four sixth hole, Briggs opened the round with five-straight par shots before draining a birdie on the par-four 11th hole. The senior rattled off three more birdies on the day to close out the final round at level par 71.
Freshman Jack Simon carded a 79 and 75 during his final two rounds to finish at 232 in the tournament.
Rookie Tyler Gerbavsits and senior Ross Moore rounded out scoring for the Red Storm carding a three-round 237 and 238, respectively.
Will Grimmer of Ohio State claimed medalist honors for the weekend, carding a 68 followed by a pair of 67s on Tuesday to finish at 11-under par. Ohio State earned the team title posting a three-round one-under 851.
The Johnnies will return to action on Oct. 28, traveling to Clifton, N.J. for the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship.
