Navy Wins Second-Straight IWS Contest, 5-2

IWS finale scheduled for tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
Navy recorded its second Intrasquad World Series victory in as many days on Thursday afternoon, downing Red, 5-2, at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
Brandon Bossard led the way for Navy at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a pair of RBIs. Peter Abinanti and Ryan Hogan also drove in runs for the victorious side.
Matt Semon recorded the win for Navy, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out a pair in four innings. Joe Kelly registered a three-inning save after allowing just two hits in three innings of scoreless work.
Sam Lara picked up the loss despite surrendering just one earned run in four frames as Red's starter. Turner French kept Navy off the board in two innings of relief.
After Semon worked a hitless top of the first, Navy struck for a pair of runs in the home half of the frame. Following a one-out walk to Bossard, Hogan laced a run-scoring double down the left field line before coming around to score himself on an error by the first baseman.
Red answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second, as Colin Wetterau walked to lead off the frame before going first to third on a Brandon Miller single and coming home on a Justin Wright sac bunt. After advancing to third on an Andrew DuPont single, Miller eventually scored on a wild pitch, tying the contest at two aside.
Navy took the lead back for good with two more tallies in the home half, both of which were unearned. Christian Pierre led things off with a walk before advancing to third on an error and eventually scoring on an Abinanti grounder to second. Tommy Papadopoulos, who reached on the aforementioned error, also came home on a Bossard RBI base knock in the frame.
After a scoreless third, Navy added an insurance run in the fourth, as Bossard singled home another unearned run to increase his team's lead to three, 5-2, heading into the fifth.
The Intrasquad World Series will wrap tomorrow afternoon, as Red and Navy are scheduled to meet one final time at 2:30 p.m.
