St. John’s Heads to Seton Hall for Friday Night Showdown

Red Storm looks for season sweep over the Pirates on Seton Hall’s Senior Day

The St. John's volleyball team will look for its second win of the season against Seton Hall on the road on Friday night at 8 p.m.
The Red Storm currently sits at 10-5 in the BIG EAST, which puts the team in third place in the conference standings. The Johnnies are three matches ahead of the next team with only three matches left on the regular season schedule.
Creighton and Marquette have already clinched spots in the BIG EAST Volleyball Championship, and St. John's is closing in on that mark after clinching the team's first winning season in conference play since 2008.
A few Johnnies also enter the match with statistical milestones in sight. Erica Di Maulo currently sits third in the nation with 1,191 assists on the season. That number puts her in tenth on the single season leaderboard in the category. She currently sits 62 assists behind her total from last year and ninth place on that list.
Amanda Sanabia was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week after breaking the program single-season digs record on Friday against Creighton. She also sits tied for sixth on the career digs leaderboard with 1,298 with Gabriela Petkova, who played from 2009-12.
Seton Hall sits in eighth place in the conference standings at 9-19 with a 4-11 conference record. The Pirates are coming off a 1-1 week after defeating Providence on Friday before falling in three sets to Creighton.
Senior Abby Thelen has been climbing her own career leaderboard all season long. She started with the 11th most kills in team history and has recorded a team-high 364 in 2018 climbing to sixth with 1,306 kills in her career as a Pirate.
Thelen was also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after averaging 4.71 kills per set over the weekend, putting her second in the conference during that span.
Fellow senior Sophia Coffey has done damage on the career leaderboard for the Pirates as well as she now ranks fifth in team history with 3,281 career assists and 14th in career digs with 985.
Allison Yaeger is now in her seventh year as head coach of the Pirates and is one of two coaches in program history to reach 100 wins. She led Seton Hall to a 28-8 record on her way to winning the 2014 AVCA Regional Coach of the Year and the 2014 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
