Red Tops Navy, 4-1, in IWS Finale

Starting pitchers impress in game three
The St. John's baseball team concluded its annual Intrasquad World Series on Friday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium, as Red topped Navy, 4-1, in a five-inning, rain-shortened affair.
Jeff Belge secured the win for Red, tossing four innings of one-run ball. The junior lefthander recorded seven of his 12 outs by way of the K and allowed just two hits. Sean Mooney was also impressive for Navy despite picking up the loss, surrendering two earned runs on four hits and striking out nine in four innings of work.
Navy pushed across its lone run in of the game in the top of the first, as Ryan Hogan reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second and coming home on a Wyatt Mascarella base knock through the right side.
After being held without a hit for the opening two innings, Red plated three runs in the home half of the third. Only one of the runs was earned, as Navy committed two errors in the frame. Mike Antico reached on a one-out error to kick things off before Rudy Aguilar beat out an infield single to put a pair of runners on base for Mitchell Henshaw. The junior college transfer ripped a hard-hit ball to the gap in left center, legging out a two-run triple and putting Red in front. Following Mooney's second strikeout of the inning, Henshaw came home on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Red added the game's final run in the home half of the fourth, as Andrew DuPont drew a one-out walk before coming around to score on an Antico double two batters later.
