GRASONVILLE, Md. - Led by Andrew Baek's strong afternoon, the St. John's men's golf team finds itself in 10th place at the Towson Spring Invitational after carding a first-round score of 314 at the Prospect Bay Country Club.
Finishing inside the top-25, Baek shot a 77 in the opening round. His performance was highlighted by a birdie shot on the par-five first hole.
Junior Ross Moore drained three birdies on the day to sit one-stroke behind Baek after carding a 78 at the conclusion of 18 holes.
Gerald Mackedon, Austin Briggs and Matthew Sweeney rounded out scoring for the St. John's posting a 79, 80 and 83.
Central Connecticut paced the team standings with a 297 (+9) while St. Bonaventure and Sacred Heart rounded out the top three slots posting a 300 and 301.
At the conclusion of day one Arthur Ouimet of Central Connecticut leads the field following a three-under 69 outing. Matt Shubley of Sacred Heart sits in second turning a two-under 70 while Max Palmer of Robert Morris is in third after recording an even par 72.
St. John's looks to improve its standings during tomorrow's final round as the squad tees off at 8 a.m.
