The Johnnies tee off Friday at 11 a.m.
After finishing in a tie for fourth place last weekend at the Patriot Intercollegiate the St. John's men's golf team continues its fall slate this weekend at the 2018 Wildcat Fall Invitational.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be played Friday-Sunday (Sept. 28-30) at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. The first round of play will begin Friday at 11 a.m. on the Par-71, 7,008 yard course.
Gerald Mackedon enters the Wildcat Invitational on the heels of a first place finish at the Patriot Intercollegiate where he carded a two-round 4-under 138 to help St. John's tie for fourth place. The Port Jefferson native has now finished in the top-two in both tournaments this season and will look to build off of that momentum on Friday by starting in No. 1 slot for St. John's.
Freshman Jack Simon will be playing as the No. 2 golfer while Ross Moore, Austin Briggs and Tyler Gerbavsits round out the five-man lineup. Matthew Sweeney will be playing in the individual portion of the tournament.
The seven-team field will consist of four BIG EAST schools in St. John's, Villanova, Seton Hall and reigning BIG EAST champions Georgetown. The three other participating programs are Appalachian State, VCU and Delaware.
This will mark the first time that Villanova will be hosting the Wildcat Invitational in both the fall and the spring. Last year during the Spring Wildcat Invitational St. John's claimed a third place finish after turning in a two-round 584 to finish ahead of 16 other competing programs.
After the White Manor Country Club was renovated in August of 2003, it earned the U.S. Course Renovation of the Year award (Golf, Inc.). Then in 2015, Golf Digest named White Manor's golf course as one of Pennsylvania's Top-25 best golf courses.
Live scoring will be available during the tournament via BirdieFire.com. Complete results of each day's events will also be available following competition at RedStormSports.com.
