St. John's to Welcome Seton Hall for BIG EAST Home Opener

The Red Storm’s contest with the Pirates can be viewed on the BIG EAST Digital Network
The St. John's women's soccer team opens the home portion of its BIG EAST schedule on Thursday night, playing host to the Pirates of Seton Hall at 7 p.m. at Belson Stadium.

Dating back to 2003, the Red Storm is 6-6-4 in its last 16 BIG EAST home openers.

In 24 all-time meetings, the Johnnies are 18-5-1 against their neighbors from the Garden State, including a 9-2-1 record inside the friendly confines of Belson Stadium. The Johnnies have won seven-straight contests against the Pirates, including a 2-0 victory last year in South Orange.

The eventual All-BIG EAST First Team selection Zsani Kajan led the way for the Red Storm in last season's win over the Pirates, scoring both goals for one of her four career multi-goal outings.

The Budapest, Hungary, native continues to lead the Red Storm offensively this season with a team-high four goals. Three other players have found the back of the net this year, as Samantha Masur, Alex Madden and Isabelle Aviza have each scored a goal for the Red Storm this season.

The Red Storm enters Thursday's contest in search of its first BIG EAST victory after falling to Providence in its league opener. Despite the loss, the Red Storm was relentless on offense, firing off more shots on net than their counterpart. Six of the Red Storm's eight tries were on target, but Providence keeper Shelby Hogan managed to stop all six.

Seton Hall enters play on Thursday with a record of 1-6-1 after falling to Butler in its BIG EAST opener. Four different Pirates have found the back of the net this season for Seton Hall.

Freshman goalkeeper Harpa Johannsdottir has started all eight games that she has played in so far this year. Johannsdottir is averaging nearly four saves per contest, including six stops against Butler this past Sunday.

Following Thursday's match against the Pirates, the Red Storm will travel to Chicago to take on DePaul on Sunday, Oct. 6. The Johnnies and Blue Demons are scheduled for a 2 p.m. ET kick-off.
