Gerald Mackedon leads the way for the Red Storm
The St. John's men's golf team turned in a combined score of 293 to finish third out of 16 teams at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate at Montclair Golf Club on Monday.
"I am so proud of this entire team and how they have closed out the fall season," Head Coach Mal Galletta said. "They struggled early on in the year but worked hard and bounced back. I think the success in the last two events has given the guys a taste of what the spring season could be like, and their continued hard work could bring similar outcomes."
The Red Storm got a top-10 performance from senior Gerald Mackedon, who fired a 72 on the day to finish in a tie for ninth place. This marked Mackedon's second top-10 finish in as many events.
Sophomores Jack Simon and Tyler Gerbavsits both finished one stroke back of Mackedon, signing off on identical scores of 73 to close out play in a tie for 14th place.
Freshman Ryan Rittberger carded a 75 on the day to tie for 26th place.
Classmate Alex Kyriacou rounded out scoring for the Red Storm with a 76 to close out the fall slate in a tie for 36th.
Fairleigh Dickinson claimed the team title with a score of 287 (+7). Manhattan's Preston Shortell earned medalist honors turning in a one-under 69 at the 18-hole event.
The Red Storm will take a few months off before returning to action for the team's spring slate.
