Simon, Kyriacou Pace Johnnies on Day One of Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate

Johnnies sit ninth after 36 holes of play
Led by strong individual performances from Jack Simon and Alex Kyriacou, the St. John's men's golf team sits in ninth place after day one of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate.
After turning in an even-par 72 over the first 18 holes, Simon closed out the day with a one-under 71. The sophomore's second-round effort was highlighted by an eagle on the par-four 13th hole. With scores of 72 and 71, Simon checked in at one-under 143 to sit in a tie for 13th place following day one.
Kyriacou turned in an identical score of one-under 143 following 36 holes of play. The freshman opened the day with a four-under 68 before wrapping up action with a three-over 75. In his low-round effort, Kyriacou drained five birdies.
Sophomore Tyler Gerbavsits turned in scores of 78 and 75, while senior Gerald Mackedon sat three shots back of Gerbavsits with a 77 and 79 on the day.
Ryan Rittberger closed out scoring for the Red Storm, shooting an 84 and 74 over 36 holes.
As a team, St. John's turned in combined score of 590 to sit in ninth place after the first two rounds.
The Johnnies will begin their third and final round of action on Tuesday at 7:45 a.m.
