Mike Antico Named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American

Senior hit .386 with six home runs in 2019
QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 17, 2019) – After emerging as one of the top offensive talents in the BIG EAST a year ago, Mike Antico has been named a Preseason Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
2020 marks the third straight year that a St. John's player has been recognized by the publication before the start of the season, as Sean Mooney was honored prior to the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
Antico, a senior outfielder from Colts Neck, N.J., enjoyed a breakout season for the Red Storm in 2019. After batting .308 with five home runs and 21 RBIs for the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Champions as a sophomore in 2018, Antico stepped up his production last spring, hitting .386 with six long balls, 23 extra-base hits and 29 RBIs. He finished second in the BIG EAST and 22nd nationally in batting average while reaching base at a .500 clip, good enough for tops in the conference and 16th in Division I.
A terror on the base paths, Antico swiped 20 bags on just 24 attempts in 2019, becoming the first St. John's player since Matt Wessinger in 2012 to steal 20 or more bases in a single season.
For his efforts, Antico was rewarded with unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team while also earning a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Region Second Team.
Antico, who hit .431 with four home runs in just 18 BIG EAST games, first caught national attention when he put forth one of the best single game performances by a St. John's player in nearly a decade. Against Villanova on April 19, Antico went 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double, seven RBIs and a pair of walks during a 24-6 win for the Red Storm. He was named one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's National Player of the Week in addition to earning BIG EAST Player of the Week honors.
In his final 37 games of the 2019 season, Antico hit .444, slugged .701 and reached base in 55 percent of his plate appearances.
Antico, who secured a spot on the NCAA Clemson Regional All-Tournament Team as a sophomore, will look to make his third career NCAA Tournament appearance with the Red Storm in 2020. The Johnnies will kick off their quest for a 10th BIG EAST title on Feb. 14 when the take on Kennesaw State in Georgia.
