The Johnnies look to improve to 5-2 with a win on Friday over the Bears.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Fresh off of receiving its 2018 BIG EAST Championship rings in front of a sold out crowd at Carnesecca Arena on Tuesday, the St. John's women's tennis team (4-2) will play its only match of the weekend on Friday, hosting Brown at the USTA National Tennis Center at noon.

The Johnnies are coming off a 4-1 victory over Binghamton last Sunday. After leading 1-0 heading into singles play, St. John's recorded three quick victories to clinch the match behind stellar performances from Najah Dawson, Jessica Livianu, and Olaya Inclan Solis.

The last time the Red Storm competed against the Bears was during the 2015-16 season as a participant in Brown's annual fall invitational. Coach Lauren Leo's squad finished a combined 18-16 in singles and doubles play for the tournament.

The Bears are 3-5 to start the 2019 campaign. Heading into Friday's contest, Brown has lost its last two matches to Princeton and the University of Penn.

After Friday's contest with Brown, the Johnnies will host Villanova in their first BIG EAST match of the season, on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:30 p.m., at the National Tennis Center.
