The Red Storm drop its first road match of the season in Hanover, N.H.
HANOVER, N.H. – The St. John's Women's Tennis team (3-2) fell to Dartmouth Sunday evening, 5-2, in its first road contest of the spring season.
In doubles play, Jessica Livianu and Najah Dawson started the day on the right track for the Red Storm, capturing a 6-1 win from the No. 1 position. The second flight consisting of Olaya Inclan Solis and Oceane Garibal clinched the doubles point for the Johnnies with a 6-1 victory.
Leading 1-0 and heading into singles matches, St. John's would drop five of its six singles matches. Dawson and Solis battled in their respective No.2 and 3 matches, both reaching a third set. After Dawson dropped the first set 6-3, she forced a third set by taking the second set, 6-4. Dartmouth's Nicole Conrad proved to be too much to handle, outdueling Dawson in the last set, 6-2. Solis won her first set 6-3, but would go on to drop the next two sets, (6-4, 6-3), and lose her match.
Livianu defeated Racquel Lyn in her top-flight singles match in straight sets, (6-1, 6-1) to improve her singles and overall records to 5-0 and 10-0, respectively.
St. John's will look to avenge its second loss of the season on Feb. 8 as the Red Storm contests LIU-Brooklyn and Fairleigh Dickinson in a tri-match, starting at noon.
