The Red Storm await the Bearcats at Cunningham Park
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's Women's Tennis team (3-2) will play its only match of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, hosting Binghamton at Cunningham Park at 12:30 p.m.
The Johnnies are coming off a 5-2 defeat to Dartmouth last Sunday. After leading 1-0 heading into singles matches, St. John's would drop five of its six singles matches. Najah Dawson and Olaya Inclan Solis battled in their respective No.2 and 3 matches, losing in three-set thrillers.
The Red Storm received its first weekly award of the year as Jessica Livianu was named the BIG EAST Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Tuesday following a perfect weekend in both singles and doubles play to help lead her team to a pair of victories against Marist and Wagner.
Freshman Najah Dawson is 4-1 to begin the season, winning singles matches in both the No.3 and No.4 positions.
This will be the first meeting with the Bearcats for everyone on Coach Lauren Leo's squad. St. John's defeated Binghamton, 5-2, in the previous matchup between the two teams in 2014.
The Bearcats are 0-5 to start their 2019 campaign. Samara Eilenberg leads Binghamton with two singles victories in the No. 1 slot. Ashley Granieri and Tiffany Dun have also won a singles match this season.
After Sunday's contest with Binghamton, the Johnnies will host Brown at the National Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 15 at noon.
