Linda Wang ties for third overall
Behind a strong individual performance from junior Linda Wang, the St. John's women's golf team finished second overall at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Friday afternoon.
"Pinehurst was a great experience for the team and a great opportunity to play at a championship course," Head Coach Ambry Bishiop said. "We didn't have our best week on the course but we still walked away with a lot of positives and feel good with the second half of the season approaching."
Wang fired a final-round 81 to close out play in a tie for third with UNC Asheville's Kellen Alsip. Kaitleen Shee also finished in the top five for the Red Storm, turning in an 83 over the final 18 holes.
Jessie Kweon posted a final-round 82 to finish 14th overall on the par-72, 6,053-yard course. Sisters Alejandra and Andrea Sanchez both saw their best effort come over the final 18, recording a 78 and 79, respectively to finish in a tie for 15th.
UNC Asheville (955) claimed an eight-stroke victory over St. John's (963) to win the team title. Yale's Ami Gianchandani placed first overall, turning in a three-round 232.
The Red Storm will have a little over two weeks off before returning to the links on March 31 for the Strutter Gus Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
