The Red Storm enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed
The St. John's women's golf team travels to South Carolina this weekend to compete in the 2019 BIG EAST Championship held at the Callawassie Island Golf Club from April 19-21.
Â
The competition, which begins Friday, is scheduled for 54 holes over three days. The BIG EAST will crown a team champion on Sunday, which earns an automatic berth to the NCAA ChaÂÂÂÂmpionship. The competition is scheduled to begin each day at 8 a.m.
Â
All rounds of the Championship, which will be played on the Dogwood and Magnolia Courses, are free and open to the public. Friday's threesomes will be determined by team and player seedings while Saturday's and Sunday's groupings are assembled from the previous day's leaderboard.
Â
After finishing fifth overall at the event last season, the Red Storm enters the BIG EAST Championship as the No. 4 seed to sit ahead of Butler and Creighton in the conference standings.
Â
St. John's has put forth a solid effort this year, finishing inside the top-five in five of the team's nine events this season, earning the team title at the Hofstra Pride Invitational.
Â
Juniors Kaitleen Shee and Linda Wang have paced the way for the Johnnies this year, each turning in four top-five finishes. Wang earned medalist honors at the Hofstra Pride Invitational and the Brown Bear Invitational, while Shee claimed medalist honors at the Lehigh Invitational.
Â
Rookie Jessie Kweon enters the BIG EAST Championship as the Red Storm's number one golfer, with Wang slotted second in the event. Wang paced the Johnnies at last season's BIG EAST Championship finishing in a tie for seventh to earn a spot on the 2018 All-BIG EAST Team.
Â
Shee, who ranks fifth overall in the league individually and is boasting a 75.6 stroke average, will be playing as the number three golfer. Â Sisters Alejandra and Andrea Sanchez will round out the lineup for the Red Storm.
Â
St. John's last team title dates back to 2005, for its only BIG EAST Championship in program history. In 2014, Harin Lee became the only individual to capture a medal at the conference tournament for the Red Storm.
Â
All results will be posted to RedStormSports.com at the conclusion of each round. The BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) will provide coverage of the final rounds on www.bigeast.com.
