No. 1 St. John’s Sweeps No. 4 DePaul, 4-0, Reaches BIG EAST Final

The Red Storm advances to the BIG EAST Championship match for the first time since 2016
CAYCE, S.C. – The St. John's men's tennis team continued its dominant play, blanking No. 4 DePaul, 4-0, in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Tennis Championships at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center. The Red Storm's 4-0 sweep over the Blue Demons clinched the program's first BIG EAST title match berth since 2016.
In doubles action, the Johnnies (18-5) claimed the early point, winning on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts, Alan Nunez Aguilera and Ognjen Trejgut secured the first doubles victory in the No.2 match, 6-4.
The duo of Dusan Vukicevic and Daniel Skripnik battled valiantly in their match, outlasting Luke Wassenaar and Conor O'Meara, 7-6, in the No. 3 contest.
In singles play, the Red Storm earned its first point of the match with a quick 6-0, 6-4 triumph in the No. 3 match by Aditya Vashistha over Luke Wassenaar.
In the No. 6 singles bout, Trejgut outlasted Tamas Zador, 6-3, 6-4, giving the Johnnies a commanding, 3-0 lead.
Andrei Crapcenco sealed the match for the Johnnies, defeating freshman Vito Tonejc in three sets on the No. 1 court, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
"It was a great match for the guys to come back the next day to close out the match. This match was much closer than 4-0. We're coming for this title tomorrow," stated head coach Dillon Pottish.
Nunez Aguilera, Vukicevic, and Udayan Bhakar went unfinished in their respective No. 2, 4, and 5 contests.
The Red Storm will look to capture its first BIG EAST Championship title since 2016 on Monday, April 22, where they will square off with No. 3 Marquette on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
