Livianu claims BIG EAST Player of the Year for the third-consecutive season
NEW YORK – For the third-straight season, junior Jessica Livianu was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year, the conference announced on Wednesday.
After finishing her singles season with a 16-1 record a year ago, the Brooklyn native finished her junior campaign with a perfect 17-0 record on the No. 1 court. The junior only needed three sets in one of her wins in singles play this season. She also tallied a doubles mark of 11-3 on the top court.
Over her three-year career during dual-match play, the Brooklyn native has accumulated an overall record of 51-3 and a perfect 24-0 against conference foes.
With the award, the junior will get an opportunity to compete in the Oracle ITA Masters Tournament in Malibu, Calif., next season by earning the league's automatic berth. In the fall of 2018, Livianu made history by becoming the first player from the conference to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
St. John's closed its season with a 13-7 record, falling to No. 2 Xavier, 4-3, in the semifinal round of the BIG EAST Championships.
