LaSorsa named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week; Antico grabs honor roll spot
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 20, 2019) – After anchoring the Red Storm to a sweep of Seton Hall this past weekend and helping the team lock down a spot in the postseason for the 16th consecutive year, Joe LaSorsa and Mike Antico have been recognized by the conference for their efforts. LaSorsa was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week while Antico was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
LaSorsa earned his second weekly pitching honor of the season after tossing eight scoreless innings in the Red Storm's series opening shutout of Seton Hall on Thursday night. In front of a national audience on FS1, LaSorsa scattered six hits and a walk over his eight frames to help the Red Storm keep its postseason hopes alive. The junior lefthander needed just 95 pitches to get through his eight innings, striking out three. The Kathonah, N.Y., native improved to 5-5 on the season with his first win since April 5. On the year, LaSorsa ranks 11th nationally among eligible pitchers with a 1.82 ERA.
Antico, the BIG EAST Player of the Week on April 22 of this year, earns his second honor roll nod of the season following a stellar weekend at the dish for the Johnnies. In three games, the junior outfielder went 6-for-8 (.750), collecting two hits a game and scoring four times over that stretch. Antico also walked on four occasions and was hit by a pitch once to reach base at a .846 clip on the series. Antico wrapped the BIG EAST regular season hitting .431 against conference foes with an OPS of 1.329. His .431 batting average in league games was second only to Creighton's Jake Holton (.463), who was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the fifth time this year.
The Red Storm will begin its quest for a 10th BIG EAST Tournament title on Thursday afternoon, taking on second-seeded Xavier at 6:30 p.m. at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
