Leah Anderson Competes on Day Two of NCAA East Preliminary Championships

The sophomore posted a time of 24.10 seconds in the 200 meter dash
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 24, 2019) – Following a strong performance on day one of the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, Leah Anderson closed out the St. John's track & field team's 2019 season on Friday evening at Hodges Stadium on the second day of the regional meet.
After placing 28th in 400 meter dash on Thursday, the sophomore standout returned to the track and posted a time of 24.10 in the 200 meter sprint. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native finished with the eighth-best mark in the second heat of six while ranking 42nd among all competitors.
Anderson paced the Red Storm in the team's five major title competitions in 2019, capturing a combined 10 gold medals at the BIG EAST and Metropolitan Indoor & Outdoor Championships, along with the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships. The second-year Johnnie also set personal records in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter dashes this season before earning a spot in the NCAA Preliminaries.
"We are very pleased to conclude our 2018-19 track & field season at the NCAA Preliminary round with Leah's 200 meter run tonight," Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "Leah, as well as our team, has had a great season winning the Metropolitan title, great efforts at the Penn Relays, third at the BIG EAST Championship and reaching the NCAA competition for the 28th consecutive year. St. John's Track & Field has a great tradition of winning, and this year's team continued to represent at a national level."
