Pair led the Johnnies in their league record 16th consecutive postseason appearance
QUEENS, N.Y. (May 28, 2019) – The St. John's baseball team placed two of its student-athletes on the all-tournament team for the BIG EAST Championship, as Mike Antico and Joe LaSorsa were recognized for their outstanding individual performances this past weekend in Mason, Ohio.
Antico led the Red Storm offensively, batting .600 (9-for-15) over the course of three games at Prasco Park. He led things off by going 3-for-5 with an RBI in the Johnnies' opening win over Xavier before tying a BIG EAST Championship record with five hits in the Red Storm's 17-13 loss to Creighton the following day. Two of his five knocks went for extra-bases, as he doubled and hit a solo home run against the eventual conference champs. He became just the fourth St. John's player since 2013 to record five hits in a single outing. The junior then doubled and walked in the Red Storm's third and final outing against Xavier.
LaSorsa earned the lone victory of the tournament for St. John's on the mound, tossing 7.1 scoreless innings of five-hit work on Thursday night against the second-seeded Musketeers. The junior southpaw, who allowed no walks, improved his record to 6-5 and lowered his ERA to 1.66 on the season. The Katonah, N.Y., native needed just 78 pitches to notch the win, throwing 59 of those for strikes.
Through the end of conference tournament play, LaSorsa ranks ninth nationally in ERA.
