St. John’s Closes Out Play at the Doc Gimmler on Sunday

Jack Simon paces the Red Storm at six-over 216
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2019) – The St. John's men's golf team wrapped up The Doc Gimmler on Sunday afternoon, posting a 54-hole total of 879 to finish in 11th place.
Four different golfers earned medalist honors, as Navy's Charlie Musto and Thomas Garbee, as well as Lafayette's Kazuki Osawa and Rhode Island's Bryson Richards each turned in a four-under 206. Navy claimed the team title after recording a combined six-under 834 over three rounds.
"Our guys played tough this weekend." Head Coach Mal Galetta said. "The Red Course at Bethpage is always a great place to play and we are grateful that they welcome us every year. A big congratulations to Kazuki, Charlie, Thomas and Bryson, as well as [Head] Coach Pat Owen and his team for winning their respective titles."
Jack Simon paced the Red Storm in the final round, recording a bogey-free front nine to kick off his morning. The sophomore closed out The Doc with an even par-70 after draining a pair of birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Simon led all Johnnies with a six-over 216 on the weekend, placing him in a tie for 29th overall.
Checking in right after Simon was classmate Tyler Gerbavsits who closed out his second Doc Gimmler appearance with a three-day score of 10-over 220 to tie for 43rd in the competition.
Freshman Alex Kyriacou shot his best round of the weekend on Sunday, registering a one-over 71. The Suffern, N.Y., native wrapped up his first tournament for the Red Storm with a three-round total of 221, finishing in 46th place.
Fellow freshmen Ryan Rittberger entered the clubhouse at two-over 72 to finish the two-day event in 53rd. Joe Busiello, who competed as an individual, carded a 74 over the final 18 holes.
Also competing as an individual, Gage Wolfle recorded par on each of the first nine holes before finishing the day at 75 to tie for 37th place.
Gerald Mackedon rounded out scoring for the Red Storm with a 76, to tie his second round score.
The Johnnies will return to action on Sept. 28, when they travel to New Haven, Conn., for the Macdonald Cup.
