St. John’s Wraps Up Day One of the MacDonald Cup

Tyler Gerbavsits paces the Red Storm at three-over 143 through 36 holes
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 28, 2019) – The St. John's men's golf team closed out day one of the MacDonald Cup, posting a 36-hole total of 21-over 291 to stand in eighth place at the Course at Yale on Saturday.
Minnesota sits in first place with a nine-under 274 through the first 18 holes, 11 strokes ahead of second place University of Pennsylvania. Evan Long and Angus Flanagan of Minnesota holds the individual lead with a four-under 136.
St. John's sophomore Tyler Gerbavsits paced the Red Storm through the opening 36 holes, shooting a three-over 143. The Huntington native sits in a tie for 13th place after nailing three birdies in the first round, followed by four in round two.
Checking in right behind Gerbavsits was Jack Simon who shot a two-round score of five-over 145 to tie for 21st in the competition. The sophomore sank five birdies in round one to break even heading into round two.
Freshman Alex Kyriacou and senior Gerald Mackedon both sat a stroke back of Simon at six-over 146 to tie for 27th place.
Joe Busiello and Gage Wolfle rounded out the St. John's leaderboard, turning in a two-round score of 157 and 197 in New Haven.
