St. John's Back in Action at the MacDonald Cup

The St. John's men's golf team will participate in its second tournament of the fall slate with a trip to New Haven, Conn., for the MacDonald Cup on Sept. 28 -29.

Each team will compete with six golfers, and the low four scores will count toward the team total each round. The Red Storm's lineup for the MacDonald Cup will showcase senior Gerald Mackedon, sophomores Jack Simon, Tyler Gerbavsits and Joseph Busiello and freshmen Alex Kyriacou and Gage Wolfle.

Simon will enter the tournament as the team's number one golfer. The Sparta, N.J., native is coming off a solid performance at the Johnnies' home event, The Doc Gimmler. Simon led the way for the Red Storm at the tournament, turning in a three-round six-over 216 to finish inside the top-30.

Kyriacou and Mackedon are slotted second and third, with Busiello, Gerbavsits and Wolfle rounding out the six-man lineup for the weekend.

The MacDonald Cup will be held at The Course at Yale, a 6,749-yard, par-70 track. Saturday will begin at 7:10 a.m. with golfers teeing off the first and 10th holes. The teams will wrap up play on Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

The 12-team field features Brown, Bucknell, Colgate, Fairfield, Fordham, Harvard, LaSalle, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Princeton, St. John's and Yale.

All results will be posted RedStormSports.com at the conclusion of each day.
