Jessica Livianu Advances to Singles Draw Round of 16 at Oracle ITA Masters

The three-time defending BIG EAST Player of the Year finished Day One with a 2-1 record.
MALIBU, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2019) – Senior Jessica Livianu of the St. John's women's tennis team commenced the Oracle ITA Masters on Thursday with a 2-1 record on the opening day of the tournament at Pepperdine University and the Malibu Racquet Club.
The Brooklyn native won her lone singles match in straight sets and, alongside junior St. John's tennis star Aditya Vashistha, split her two mixed doubles matches at Pepperdine University.
Livianu and Vashistha, seeded No. 24 in the singles draw on the men's side, opened the morning with a narrow victory in their Round of 32 match. The fourteenth-seeded pair in the draw notched a 7-6(3) triumph over No. 19-ranked Kalani Soli and Nicaise Muamba of Liberty.
Soon after that contest, Livianu took the court to battle Oakland's Ava Thielman in the singles main draw opening round. The senior, seeded ninth this week, cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win in her first collegiate singles match of the fall.
In the evening, Livianu and Vashistha returned to the court to face No.3-ranked Alexa Graham of North Carolina and Hady Habib of Texas A&M. The St. John's duo fell to the No. 3 twosome in the second round of the mixed doubles bracket, 6-2.
Next up for Livianu is a matchup with No. 7 Sara Daavettila of North Carolina in the second round of singles action, Friday at 2 p.m. ET. The winner will play again Friday night in the quarterfinal round.
