The Johnnies contest with the Explorers can be viewed on ESPN3
After dropping a pair of decisions, the St. John's women's soccer team will look to get back in the win column at home on Sunday afternoon, playing host to La Salle at 1 p.m. in Queens.
Â
The game will be produced live by SJU-TV and can be viewed on ESPN3, available on the ESPN.com/watch and ESPN app. Ralph Bednarczyk and Scott Greene will be on the call from Queens.
Â
St. John's enters Sunday's match after falling on the road to Stony Brook on Thursday evening. The Johnnies battled the Seawolves for more than 90 minutes, marking the Red Storm's third overtime game this season. Zsani Kajan, Addison Hornsey and Sofia Ambrosio all tallied a shot for the Red Storm.
Â
Kajan has fired a team-high 10 shots this season to go along with two goals, including a game winner at home against Yale.
Â
Despite the team's most recent loss to Stony Brook, goalkeeper Naya Lipkens made a career-high 11 saves. This marked the first such effort by a St. John's keeper since Lauren Ferris grabbed 11 at Seton Hall on Oct. 2, 2011. It also marked the first time a St. John's player has recorded double-digit saves since Diana Poulin grabbed 10 against Marquette on Nov. 8, 2013.
Â
Collectively, the Johnnies have registered a combined three goals on the year with two coming from Kajan and the other from Isabelle Aviza.
Â
In Sunday's contest, the Johnnies will look to remain undefeated inside the friendly confines of Belson Stadium this year, as the Red Storm defeated Yale, 2-1, in the team's home opener on Aug. 30.
Â
La Salle comes to Queens with a record of 2-2-1 on the season. The Explorers enter Sunday's contest on the heels of a 2-1 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday. Offensively, La Salle has registered four goals so far this year. Redshirt senior Maci Bower and junior Amirah Louketis lead the Explorers in scoring, tallying two goals apiece.
Â
In net for the Explorers, junior Claudia Jenkins has played every minute of each match. The keeper has a goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of 0.84. She's totaled 23 saves and one shutout on the season.
Â
Sunday marks the sixth all-time meeting between the Johnnies and the Explorers, with the Red Storm leading the series, 4-0-1.
Â
The two program's last meeting was on Aug. 18, 2017, as the Johnnies and Explorers battled to a 3-3 double-overtime draw at La Salle.
